What is Chewing Gum?
It's easier to say what this isn't. Not a social network. Not a dating app. It's an answer to a small question you've probably had at a coffee shop: is this mutual?
Here's how it works. You scan the QR code at a participating venue in San Francisco to check in. While you're there, you can privately offer a piece of gum to someone else who's checked in. Nobody is told they were offered gum unless they offer one back — so you only ever hear about it when the interest goes both ways. The service is free, you can use it without giving a name or a number, and a text when it's mutual is an optional extra you turn on or off yourself.
Who am I?
Who built this matters less than who shows up to use it. This works if enough people decide it should, and it doesn't if they don't.
