What we collect
We collect only what's needed to operate Chewing Gum: information you provide (such as a photo, a name, and an optional phone number) and information collected automatically when you use the service (such as IP address and short-lived cookies). We use it to run, secure, and improve the service, and to comply with the law. We use reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
How we share
We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers, such as cloud, database, email, and SMS providers, who process data on our behalf. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect someone's safety. We keep data only as long as needed and then delete it.
Biometrics
We do not collect, capture, store, or use biometric identifiers or biometric information as defined by the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act, or similar laws. We do not use facial recognition or generate face geometry from content you upload.
SMS messages
We send two kinds of SMS messages, and you can use the service without receiving either. (1) Verification codes: when you request a code to verify your number, we send a one-time code to that number. (2) Match notifications: a text letting you know when someone you offered gum to offered it back, sent only if you check the optional opt-in box while you're checked in. Match notifications are not required to use Chewing Gum, and you can opt out at any time by replying STOP. We do not send marketing texts. Message frequency depends on your matches (typically none to a few per check-in). Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes, and we do not otherwise sell or share your phone number with third parties except as needed to deliver messages (such as via our SMS provider) or as required by law. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Standard message and data rates may apply.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data. To exercise these rights, email support@pieceofgum.com; we will verify your request using information already associated with you, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. Chewing Gum is for adults 18 and over; we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we update this policy, the date above will change, and for material changes we'll provide additional notice in the service.
